"Doom" Reference?

Hi guys...I was looking at a L4D walkthrough on YouTube, and I swear I saw the Doom Guy's face sneering at you in one of the safehouses...I think it was graffiti or something. I'm including a hyperlink to what I saw. The face is on the right side of the screen, visible from about...0:03 to 0:07. I think the graffiti is "Left [Sneering Face] Dead." I apologize for using the right formatting, but this is the first time I've edited something on a wiki.

Dark Carnival/ Coaster

When i was playing versus i was in the safe room of coaster and i found the SIG SG552, an international weapon and it did damage to the zombies and i was the only one to notice, can someone hack it on the xbox and can have it or is it extreamly rare? Edit this if you have an answer. thank you

Just a suggestion here but I'f there's a way to stop unregestered contributers from editing the wiki that might help stop the guy/people that have been constantly vandalizing the pages. Sgt. Maine November/28/2009

We can, but it wouldn't technically be a place where "anyone could edit", would it? Besides, they could just register and make vandalize on their accounts. Looks terrible at 1024x768

Suggestions

OK, I have tried to edit the CSS, but so far, no results. I've tried to edit the bottom of the main page (Hubs, Featured, Wikia is hiring), and the text there is black and as you can see, the links are all blue. So what do I need to edit if I want to change bottom links and text to different color? This is kinda bothering me. So, if you handle CSS well could you help?

And some extra stuff. What do you think if we would add a poll to the main page? I see that other wikis have polls and some other stuff. What about picture of the day or userbox? ShadoW 17:15, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Walk-Throughs

Do we have any walk-throughs for the chapters? If not, are they necessary? I know the AI Director would make it a little more complicated, but I believe it could be done...if it hasn't already. I mean, all of the other major game wikis I've seen so far--like Halopedia and The Combine OverWiki--have walk-throughs for their levels and chapters. I don't see much of a reason for one, considering that most of the levels are linear. There are no puzzles to solve, no people to talk to, etc. Each chapter can have a strategy section, which would cover everything useful that a walkthrough could. --HarrisonH 20:40, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Good point. After seeing the Tactics article, though, I sort of felt that a walk-through became somewhat irrelevant. However, a strategy section to the articles... That would pretty much go over the things one would otherwise put into a walk-through for that campaign, and also lengthen the pages, which I've noticed are all stubs. Should a template be made to state that an article needs a strategy section? One should be made for an example, maybe for The Apartments since it is the first chapter in the first campaign. The template would link to it, so people get an idea of what they're writing. Though I don't have the same desire to be an admin (well, I do, but I'll wait for a while before I ask), I would like rollback rights at some time or another. Mm. I haven't seen Takua around yet, either. I see ShadoW every now and then, not often, but he's there. He's probably just busy. I saw something that requires an admin to edit, as well: MediaWiki:Needhelp. I have a widget turned on that would show pages that require help...but there's none listed at the moment. I certainly know Glitches, which is a new article, needs some, or else I think it should be deleted. Featured

Instead of constantly changing our featured items, or not changing them at all, why don't we start changing them on a regular basis? I think we could change the featured media and poll about once a week, and our featured article once a month. If we are able to do that, we should make a page or two where users can vote on what they'd like to feature next, and show all past featured things.

And yes, I think it would probably be okay to re-feature some articles if they're just that good. We really don't have all that many articles, and we probably won't be able to make very many more until Valve releases more content for the game. New Main Page Design

I'm not so sure we should. If we change it to match the sequel and another sequel arrives, do we change it again? I think the solution is to keep the original. Besides, this is the Left "4" dead wiki, is it not? New feature: Blogs

Recently Wikia's updates are really getting my excited, and the blog option is a really splendid idea, my suggestion is that for every news on the main page (for example, the Left 4 Dead 2 announcement), we will make it a blog so people can share their thoughts in the comments. Halopedia thought of this before me, I saw it and I'm amazed how it makes the community better. You can see how the blogging's comments work here. So, should we adopt this idea? I really like it. Customized header area for main page

I've been visiting the Harry Potter Wiki lately for some information about the series and saw some cool things there. Anyway, the main page looks cool.

Getting to the point. Would Left 4 Dead Wiki look cool with customized header area? For example the featured article would look like this: Meaning that this pic would replace the "Featured article" text in the header. Any thoughts? ShadoW 11:27, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Add-on campaigns? You mean campaigns made by people other than Valve? Honestly, I'm not entirely sure if we should allow those or not at this point. Wiki region

I've been noticing a lot of pages spell things differently depending on the editor. "Color" spelled "Colour", "Favorite" spelled "Favourite" so I was thinking for consistency's sake whether we should make the Wiki UK based spelling, or US based spelling. It's not a huge deal, but I find it kind of silly when someone fixes a "spelling error" when it's only changing the words between regions. Jo the Marten 08:38, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Left 4 Dead-specific pages

So now that L4D2 is coming out, I think we're going to have to rename-and-disambiguate a bunch of pages, now that we're covering two games. For example, I think Update info should be renamed to Update info (Left 4 Dead), and then of course we'll add Update info (Left 4 Dead 2).

Half-Life

Is the Left 4 Dead Universe connected with the Half-Life universe?

I just found this awesome jukebox in The Parish level that played a bunch of songs, and I spammed the X-Button on it and got the 'Still alive' song from Portal.

Logo sugestion

If i'm correct the size of the logo can be up to 216px and that's what this wiki's skin uses, although i dont know if other skins need it to be smaller of if this wiki can even be viewed with another skin so i didn't modify anything but i made this version of the logo just in case you guys like. I guess it should be an admin who decides if it can be used.

Jo the Marten, it can't really see, but they probably made that on Versus to make it fair for Hunter players.

The hunter is like a dog. It has a sense of smell, it also has a sixth sense. You can see as a hunter in versus to better balance out gameplay. In left4dead you can see his eyes are gone, in left 4 dead 2 you can no longer see above his nose.

Front Page not User Friendly , More Icons Needed

I think the TF2 Wiki does a great job of compiling links to it's most important articles on the front page by having lots of icons to clearly show the content. So, I think the L4d Wiki should do something similar, but of course, not out right copy it. We should look at other video game wikis for more inspiration as well. An idea I've had

Map idea?

Here's one try to make a map of Millhaven from the Sacrifice Comic for both L4D & L4D2.But use only these Weapons and Ideas

-All Tier 2 weapons.

-Regular Pistols and the Desert Eagle Magnum.

-If Possible All the International Weapons such as the H&K MP5,SIG SG552,Steyr Scout,Accuracy AWSM Sniper Rifle,And the Combat knife.

-All the weapon upgrades Laser sights,Incendiary Ammo,Explosive ammo.

-Only have the Boomer Bile grenade.

-Use only these melee weapons The Crowbar,Axe,and the Chainsaw.

-Have the Grenade Launcher,and the M60.

-Only use the following Tier 1 weapons Silent SMG,and Regular SMG.

-Only have the Explosive barrel,Propane tank,Oxygen tank,and Gas can.

-Plus also use the Heavy Machine gun,or Minigun whatever version your using.

-Make the escape vehicle a train.

-You may use two levels or more.

-If possible have Louis and Franscis appear at a Cell that has the door opened and have Bill and Zoey appear at the doctor's office if not have them appear at the truck that the Soldier was driving in Blood Harvest.

Blue or Green?

While getting the Wiki more prepared for the transition from the old layout to the new, I changed the color of links from blue to green. But I want to know what everyone thinks. Is the green better? Worse? Is there a color you guys think would fit better than blue or green? I thought blue sorta stood out too much and seemed out of place. I want to hear your opinions. unclosed tag on main page

The reason it says 'Retrieved from "http://left4dead.wikia.com/wiki/Left_4_Dead_Wiki" ' at the bottom of the main page right now is that more than likely one of the <div> tags has no matching </div>, but it could be any unmatched tag. I've tried to find it, but had no luck so far, because the layout is complicated. On a different note, the wikia gaming banner at the bottom does not have to be there, if you don't want it. Drop down menus

I want to know the best way I can alter the drop down menus at the top of the site. I've had a few people mention how certain things are missing and I sincerely apologize, I have no power to add more than the set amount of menus and items within menus. I wanna know what everyone wants to see and what doesn't need to be up there. The statistics you'll need to know is that there can only be a maximum of four menus and seven items maximum within a menu. There are no submenus. The Navigator menu can be removed if people would prefer it. I just put that up temporarily so people could have tools they'll need at their disposal. So lemme know what everyone wants to see. The venerable GOOMBA stomp

I have been looking through this wiki (which is very nice, by the way, all the members have done a good job!) was just a little bit surprised that for as comprehensive as this is, there doesn't seem to be any mention of the 'goomba stomp' method of killing common infected. I know, I know, it is ultimately more of a novel gimmick (though not always, there are plenty of times this has come in handy) but because it is unique, to the point of providing a bit of comic relief to the otherwise tense and dark atmosphere of the game, well... "Common Infected are only strong in numbers. Sticking together is key to keeping them off you and your teammates' backs. If you are concerned about conserving ammunition, consider using the pistol, which kills them in just a few shots or in one head shot on any difficulty, not to mention it has infinite ammo. It is possible to kill a Common Infected simply by jumping on their heads. To do so, simply walk off an edge which is at least a little taller than the Common Infected, and onto their head. Useless notes...

I've been looking around and I've noticed someone has been putting notes on pages that are absolutly pointless, such as "Falling into the water at Earl's Gator Village will kill an unlucky Survivor and this could be interpreted as a gator attributed death." That makes no scence...But since I have no Edting-Skils, I can't change anything. Unlisted Witch Tactic: Molotov/Gas combo

Hi!

I've found this wiki particularly useful in some respects and want to provide a big witch-killing tip I didn't see listed under "Other Witch-killing tactics". The page is locked from editing, so I was hoping an admin/sysop might temporarily unlock/grant editing powers, or just add this tip themselves to the page in bold.

In L4D2, if you encounter a witch and have access to a molotov AND gas can: toss the gas can near enough to the witch that, if ignited, the witch will catch fire. Then, throw your molotov near enough to the gas can that it will ignite the can BUT NOT THE WITCH. If you do this, the witch will catch fire without agroing the player, will wander aimlessly, and may be shot at without drawing her ire.

A similar result may be achieved with other combinations, such as: 2 gas tanks (one directly/indirectly ignited), a propane tank (indirectly ingnited) and a molotov, a propane tank (indirectly ignited) and a gas can. I do not recommend trying to directly ignite a propane tank1 to indirectly ingnite a propane tank2 or a gas can.

Should we have a "User Theories" page?

I think it would be a good idea to have one page dedicated to user theories, i.e. I think the witch cries because..., I think this SI does this because of that... etc. We could clean out the theories from the other pages and have them neatly organized. Thoughts? - KingMurdoc
