Riverside is a small suburban community located someplace in Pennsylvania where the last three chapters of the Death Toll campaign takes place in Left 4 Dead .
History
The town whose population was around 3,450[1] was a quiet little suburban community where there was little action going on. Most residents happily lived their lives and spent their time on hobbies and recreational activities. The community would come together on the Main Street of the town where several shops, offices, and a movie theater were located and everyone could enjoy.
Current Status
After the Infection broke out, the U.S. Military attempted to convert the town into a safe point. Reaching Riverside is the main objective of the Survivors for the majority of both the Crash Course and Death Toll campaign. However, by the time the Survivors reach it, Riverside has been overrun. The army has abandoned the town, and the Infected roam about what's left of the place. The town also contains the Valley Church, in which the Survivors encounter the ever-paranoid "Church Guy". Here, one way or another, the man ends up ringing the church's bell, thus summoning waves of the Infected onto the Survivors while they're locked outside. In the end, they are able to get in, allowing them to proceed into the overrun town.
Landmarks in Riverside
- Riverside Park - Riverside Park is a picnic ground and swimming area just outside of the town. It has a cabin, a boathouse, and some docks, all of which the Survivors may move around on to defend themselves after summoning their rescue; the S.S. Saint Lidia II.
- Riverside First Church - The Church is the location for the Crescendo Event at the end of Death Toll's third chapter. It is also the location of the "Church Guy".
- Main Street - Once the heart of Riverside, the Main Street now lies in ruins. In the middle of Main Street, the road has been torn up to make a blockade in a failed effort to stop the advancing hoard of infected. Different places located along the Main Street include: a small office building, Fine Antiques, a movie theater, a barber shop, Military Surplus, 1st Bank and Trust (established in 1918), A & C Bookstore, and a diner.
- Poppy Field Florist - a florist shop in Riverside that probably helps with selling and donating flowers to Riverside First Church and cemetery.
- Quik Buy Convenience Store - near the edge of the town beside the church this convenience store is similar to it's counter-part, the Save 4 Less in Left 4 Dead 2.
- Riverside, in reality, is considered Montgomery. However, close to it's highschool is a campground named Riverside. this is not to be confused with another standalone city near Montgomery called Riverside, for they are the same places. The river is there, but the forest isn't.

Notes
- There is a real Riverside located in Pennsylvania with a population of 2,000, which is similar to the Riverside in Left 4 Dead.
- Despite its hinted location somewhere in Pennsylvania, this town seems to be modeled after Riverside, California. The church and the graveyard are taken right from the town.
- CEDA refers to Valley Church as the Riverside First Church during the evacuation of Whitney County and the city of Fairfield (as seen in the CEDA posters).
- The town of Riverside is somewhat similar to the settings and events at Cedar Creek in the movie "Outbreak" where a deadly flu-like virus breaks out and the military quarantines the town though the ending was not as happy for the town of Riverside...
- One of the last remaining survivors of Riverside was probably the Church Guy who finally succumbed to the infection.
