Project: Walkthrough

Alright, people. As you all know, Left 4 Dead 2 has been announced. This means that this website will now be focused more around hearing news about it and getting it on here. What you all may not know, is that a small amount of us have been attempting to get properly written and laid-out walkthroughs for L4D 1 onto this wiki. So far progress is moving slowly. With the new rush of L4D2 hype and information, it'll be moving slower. If it does not get done before L4D 2 comes out, it will never be completed. So, it needs be finished as soon as possible. Some, like The Tunnel, and The Train Station have to be written out for the most part whereas others, for example The Hospital only require a small amount more. If you do decide to write part of a walkthrough, refer to other finished pages for guidelines. Examples include The Sewer, The Subway and The Greenhouse.

Generally, a completed walkthrough contains the following headings:

  1. Strategy
    1. Campaign
    2. Versus
      1. The Survivors
      2. The Infected
    3. Survival
  2. Trivia

The finales will not have these headings. They will be more like this:

  1. Strategy
    1. Survivors
      1. Method 1
      2. Method 2
      3. Method 3
      4. Method 4
      5. Etc, etc.
    2. Infected
      1. Assorted Strategies, etc.
    3. Survival
  2. Trivia

Pages requiring attention:

No Mercy

Death Toll

Dead Air

Blood Harvest

† These levels do not have Crescendo Events and therefore do not require the Survival heading.

Keep In Mind

  • Walkthoughs can be but are not necessarily formal, many of the finished walkthroughs are descriptive and talkative, rather than formal. As long as it is an actual walkthrough.
  • Do not create a walkthrough containing personal experiences written in the form "I found pills here" or "This editor was attacked by a Smoker at this point". Instead, replace it with something along the lines of "Pills can often be found here." or "Smokers can set up brilliant ambushes at this location. Be careful.".
  • Do not sign your name on any areas of the walkthrough.
  • If a seperate "Tips" section or something similar exists, try to incorporate it under the currently existing headings, for example "Strategy" or "Trivia".
  • The goal is to guide the player through the level, not give completely vague directions and locations.

If you do not know how to contribute to the walkthroughs but you know a spawn location of a Tank, pills, grenades or a Witch that is not on the page, contact me and I will fill it in for you. --Five Dog(Talk) {Updates} 21:36, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm sure you guys know already, but spawn locations are all different. We can't really say "A witch will spawn in front of the safe house" we could, however, say something like "The survivors will rarely find a witch blocking them from going to the safe house." Or "The tank will come after you reach the train station" to "The tank may spawn once you reach the train station, beware." 03:37, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
They are all the rough areas where those things usually spawn. I'd know after many, many times of playing through the games. -§tigma-231oƒ my caliber {τalk}{¢ont} 03:38, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
That's the basic idea, Powers. We can give locations on where things are likely to spawn or have spawned before. The director isn't entirely spontaneous, he simply has many set locations at which to spawn things. With the exception of special infected, hordes, etc. --Five Dog(Talk) {Updates} 11:49, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Brilliant job, Five Dog, but might I add that a lot of the campaigns need versus tips and whatnot? My forte is campaigns, but I couldn't even get into Death Toll's versus. The only versus modes I would know anything about and be willing to stand are No Mercy and Blood Harvest's, more so the former than the later. So, I encourage other users to write them up for all articles missing one, or improve on ones that have one already! I'll be keeping an eye out, though!

We probably need to make a template saying that such and such article needs some kind of walkthrough, to make things a little more...organized, for easier access. -§tigma-231oƒ my caliber {τalk}{¢ont} 22:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and Survival tips, too! 00:24, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Alright. I added survival to the above templates. That also means that virtually all walkthroughs are incomplete as I believe there is only one that has a Survival heading. And speaking of your template idea, I don't know how to make them, but do you mean like "this article is a stub" etc.? As in a template that would say "this article needs a walkthrough". Is that what you mean? --Five Dog(Talk) {Updates} 19:59, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Basically, yeah. -§tigma-231oƒ my caliber {τalk}{¢ont} 20:03, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm... Don't know how to actually make it a template... but how's something like this?:
Witch Walkthroughs requires a walkthrough
This article is in need of a properly written walkthrough.

Edit - Talk page - Category

Yeah, it sounds odd what with it saying "Walkthroughs requires a walkthrough", but "walkthroughs" is the page name, so you get the idea. I've never made and incorporated a template into a wiki but I have designed one before. --Five Dog(Talk) {Updates} 20:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Kind of like that, I'll make it later I guess and fix it up. -§tigma-231oƒ my caliber {τalk}{¢ont} 20:48, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, you mean one without a box or a picture. I just thought that with a box and picture it'd be noticed much easier. And the picture represents Louis finding a Witch in a surprising place because there was no walkthrough to list its location. :P --Five Dog(Talk) {Updates} 21:05, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
We'll see. -§tigma-231oƒ my caliber {τalk}{¢ont} 21:16, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, should you guys add ideas for survival mode also? Like the most acceptable spot where to deal with the horde? 05:59, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I think I already mentioned that. :P -§tigma-231oƒ my caliber {τalk}{¢ont} 15:20, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
And I've already added it to the above. =) --Five Dog(Talk) {Updates} 18:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
